This is a newly developed position for a Group IMS, Environmental and Sustainability Manager for a Specialist Civil Engineering company based in Lancashire. Please note, Only candidates from a construction, Utilities or Civil Engineering background need apply. No Offshore or manufacturing candidates please.

Typical Duties

Maintaining the IMS; reviewing current documents for relevance, updating and reissuing them as appropriate. Creating and adding new documents, and withdrawing ones that have become redundant
Writing and / or reviewing Contract Management Plans, which combine H&S, Quality and Environmental content, including Construction Phase Plans as required under CDM.
Supporting the business development departments of the Group companies by supplying input as requested for tender and prequal submissions.
Carrying out internal audits of departments and sites, particularly where requested by Group HSQE Manager with a focus on environmental factors and sustainability.
Hosting and associated preparation for external audits (BSI, Achilles, potential clients).
Keeping up to date with HSQE regulatory requirements by reviewing new legislation (provided via an Information Service subscription) and determining its relevance to the Group business.

Disseminating relevant information by email, IMS document or occasionally by Powerpoint presentation.
Carrying out HSQE inductions of new staff, and keeping the induction content up to date.
Contributing HSQE input to monthly Board reports.
Carrying out comprehensive IMS Reviews for the Group of companies on an annual basis (and more frequently if required).
Calculating annual Carbon Footprint for Group companies where requested.


The successful candidate will be expected to possess and demonstrate:-


An excellent standard of literacy and the ability to write documents and reports quickly, accurately and in a style that is easy for end users to understand.
An environmental qualification.
A good knowledge of sustainability issues and the ability to identify and advise on gaps in the Group’s current approach.
A good basic knowledge of health, safety and quality. There will be considerable overlap with the HSQE manager and the role requires you to update and write documents on all aspects of HSQE and sustainability.
Experience of internal auditing and working knowledge of ISO 9001, 14001 and OHSAS 18001 standards. A lead auditor qualification in one or more standards would be an advantage.
Strong IT skills including advanced layout and use of tables in Word, conditional formatting, working knowledge of Microsoft Access, low-level pdf editing.
An ability to self-manage and work to deadlines with a co-operative approach and an ability to support other departmental Managers where required.
A construction industry background will be seen as an advantage.
